What Is Metal Stamping?

With the rapid development of the global market, there is an increasing need for rapid production of a large number of complex parts. The metal stamping technology is a fast and cost-effective solution to meet this kind of mass production of complex parts. So, what is metal stamping?

What Is Metal Stamping?

Metal stamping is to put a flat metal plate in the form of a coil or blank into a stamping machine. Under the action of pressure, the surface of the tool and die will form the metal into the required shape, and then we get metal stamping parts. Punching, bending, embossing and flanging are all common metal stamping techniques.

The tools and dies are designed by designers through CAD/CAM engineering technology. These designs are generally very accurate, ensuring that each punch and elbow maintains an appropriate gap to obtain the best stamping parts quality. Once the mold design is determined, the metal stamping parts manufacturer can use various machining, grinding, wire cutting and other manufacturing services to complete its production.

Types of Metal Stamping

1. Progressive Die Stamping

The feature of progressive die a&i metal stamping is that it has multiple stations, and each station has a unique function.

In the process of progressive die vulcan metal stamping, first the strip metal is fed in through a progressive stamping machine, and the steel strip is smoothly unfolded from the coil and enters the die press. Then each station in the tool performs a different operation, such as cutting, stamping or bending, but the actions of each successive station are added to the work of the previous station to form a complete part. However, it should be noted that the stamped metal parts manufacturer may have to repeatedly change tools on a single press or occupy multiple presses, each of which performs an operation required to complete the part. Even if multiple presses are used, secondary processing services are usually required to truly complete a part. Therefore, progressive die stamping is an ideal solution for metal parts with complex geometries. It is characterized by faster turnover cycles, reduced labor costs, shorter running lengths and higher repeatability.

2.Fourslide Stamping

As the name suggests, fourslide has four sliders, which means up to four different tools, one tool for each slider, which can be used to achieve multiple bends at the same time. This process allows for complex cutting and complex bending to develop the most complex stamped components. When the material is fed into fourslide stamping, it will be bent in rapid succession by each axis equipped with tools.

Fourslide stamping has many advantages compared with traditional stamping. Its versatility to produce more complex stamping steel parts and more flexible design changes make it an ideal choice for many applications.

3. Deep Draw Stamping

Deep drawing refers to drawing a metal slab into a mold through a punch to shape it. When the depth of the drawn part exceeds the diameter of the metal slab, the method is called deep drawing. Deep-drawing klassen metal stamping technology is very suitable for manufacturing parts that require multiple series of diameters, and is a cost-effective alternative to the turning process, which usually consumes more raw materials. Common applications and products made by deep drawing include auto stamping parts, aircraft parts, electronic relays, and tableware and cooking utensils.
